So I wrote this dream down a while ago when I had it, but never actually published it. I guess for some reason I didn’t think it was “dream journal worthy” at the time…

I remember having three distinct dreams last night, but I only recall the events in the very last one.

I was at a town that was kind of a cross between my hometown of Lamar and some place in Eastern Kansas. Maybe Topeka? Anyway, it was slightly larger than Lamar, but not by much, and there were a lot of trees. To sum it all up, it felt like I was somewhere in the U.S. East of Lamar.

I remember being in this unique “dream town” before, a long while back, but I don’t know why it keeps popping up in my dreams.

Anyway, it’s night time in this town, (it’s also early summer. I’m there, but normal high school isn’t out yet) and I’m on the East side of the main street (which runs North and South) The directions really have no importance other than the fact that for whatever reason, I knew them in my dream.

Like I said, a parade going down main street, and there are a lot of people out to see the parade, too. I’m in the middle of a crowd, and my family is there, including my grandparents. Everyone is enjoying the festivities.

That is, until these weird zig-zaggy ribbons start floating down from the night sky. They were very weird indeed, having two distinct sides, but also kind of puffy, having a bit of substance to them. One side would be gray or black while the other side would be more of a white. They were kind of thick, but they floated down as if they weighed hardly anything, and when they hit the ground, they kept moving a bit, but not really. I don’t know how to describe it. It’s like they didn’t really move on their own, but instead where nudged and scooted along a bit by some kind of wind that only they were vulnerable to.

Anyway, people start freaking out, and the parade stops. People are running everywhere, wondering what on Earth could have caused such disturbing things to fall from the sky. I remember being a little weirded out myself.

The dream skips to a scene behind the local high school. It’s still night time (in fact, it’s always night time in this dream) Some time has passed since the parade, and people were now calling the things that fell from the sky “downers”, I guess because they fell down from the sky.

Anyway, some people were fascinated by the downers and even worshipped them. There were two people in particular that would take one downer in each hand and start dancing, while twirling the downers in their hands (one was a girl and one a boy, and both of them had hardly any clothes on). They would dance themselves into a sort of meditative state, at which point the downers would occasionally flicker different colors, illuminating the person that held them as if they were actually glowing.

Well, something about the whole prospect of downers rubbed me the wrong way, so I set out to find out what they were. I found out that at about the same time the downers showed up, some people had actually started disappearing. I started to keep track of the people going missing with every time the downers came. Eventually, what I figured out that every missing person had in common was that they had all been diagnosed with some form of depression.

It was then that I realized that “downers” were actually people. When a person gets really depressed, they turn into a downer and fall from the sky that night. (they only fall at night) I announced my findings to everyone, and soon the world realized that they had a new pandemic on their hands: depression. But that only caused more trouble, because people started worrying and losing loved ones to depression, which, in turn, would make them depressed.

The dream ended in the midst of this chaos, with more and more people turning into downers, and more and more people started to dance with and worship the downers. This was probably one of the weirdest dreams I’ve had.
